Sweets for the Soul

I've been sick lately, which the recent lack of posts may be attributed to. I figured a sugar rush would perk me up, so I decided to make cupcakes! One would think to rest up while sick, but I did just the opposite, making sure not to shirk any responsibilities(like going to school), and even taking on more projects that I normally do. Somehow, it worked for me; I'm feeling better!:)

Little Shopaholic

The title is named as it is because when I first heard the song “Little Shop of Horrors”, from the musical of the same name, I heard “Little Shopaholic”. I guess it’s the actual shopaholic in me, but that’s what I heard when I first heard this song as a kid, and for years since then, that’s what I sang when I sang what little I knew (or thought I knew) of that song.

Anyway, here are the bags from the fall shopping I’ve done in the past month or so. I find it curious that looking at these bags, one really can’t tell the style of the person to whom the bags belong.

The bags are from the following stores: Urban Outfitters, H & M, Target, Victoria’s Secret, American Apparel, DSW, Nordstrom, American Eagle, Forever 21, and a dance store located in New Jersey.

Not a Night Out

I bought this dress because it was hot, the perfect nightlife outfit, and an inexpensive one at that. After buying it, I told my boyfriend we had to go someplace fancy in which I could wear it, and, chuckling, he agreed. Yesterday, he broke up with me. After a year of dating, the breakup was unexpected, on my part. But we do plan on remaining friends. Anyway, I’m left with nowhere to wear this dress; I’m not exactly a party girl. So rather than wearing it out, I wore it in my house to take a few shots. I have yet to decide whether or not to return this.

Two Weeks After Giving My Two Weeks (Notice)

Today was my final day working as a cashier at a supermarket. It was my first job, and I held it for four months. I know I will soon miss receiving a paycheck. And soon after that, I may consider applying for another job. So this ensemble was to be ideal for a job interview. But I think if a skirt is worn for a job interview, it should fall past the knees, so really this is more the kind of outfit that should be worn at a job AFTER landing it, hehe. It produces a professional, yet striking, impression.

London Fashion Week: Burberry Prorsum Spring 2010 Collection

After nearly a decade, Burberry returned to London Fashion Week (after having shows in Milan instead), and did not disappoint. The soft colors, belted waists, twisting and draping of chiffon, and iconic Burberry trench coats (in an updated, thigh skimming fashion), all took my breath away.

Season Transition: Summer '09 to Fall '09

Autumn has officially arrived! Goodbye to tank tops and hello to sweaters! This outfit keeps me warm but isn't bulky. And these colors truly epitomize the season. Simply put, this is my ideal fall outfit.

This last photo is very "school picture day". As I'm a college student, I no longer have a picture day, but this is around the time that picture days are held for those in high school and below.

Styled Like a Schoolgirl

I've never attended a school that required the wearing of school uniforms. If I had, I'm sure I would've been a bit rebellious in following that rule, as I highly value expressing myself, through personal style and otherwise. Anyway, here is my take on the schoolgirl look.

Reminiscing those Summer Days

To piggyback off yesterday's post, here are some of my beach shots from the summer.

These are photos from a four day beach trip I took with my boyfriend in Wildwood, NJ back in August.

My boyfriend thought these balls weren't attached to the ground. Please take a moment to make fun:)

Trekking to the beach.

Sand castle? More like a sand ancient temple!

Jellyfish on a boogie board.

Polish Water Ice. One word: yum!

And the photos below are of a short, one day beach trip taken with my boyfriend in Long Branch, NJ today. The last beach trip of most likely the entire year:(

The waves weren't as fierce as they were at the previous beach, but they were better than none at all.

A seagull pecking into someone's plastic bag, presumably filled with food or garbage. Priceless.

Seagull rock.

Seashells I collected! I'm thinking of using these for a project or two, and if so, I'll definitely post the final products of them!

An interesting seashell sculpture we stumbled upon.

Clinging to Summer

As the official end of summer is drawing near, I decided to wear an outfit that embodies the season. It will be difficult to pull off floral prints as the weather cools, so I made sure to make use of this sleeveless flowered dress. The flats (with an ever so slight wedge) and the hair worn down only add to this breezy summer look. The shots below were taken in my boyfriend's backyard.

The scenery in this last shot is beautiful. I love the opening of light within the trees. One can't tell by this photo, but the Hudson River lies just beyond. It looks as if I'm looking out at the world and realizing just how small I am.

Movie Review: The September Issue

Vogue is the most influential and revered fashion magazine in the world, an honor it has retained for decades. Each year, it publishes a special fall issue filled with upcoming fashions to appeal to consumers and designers alike. The September Issue documents the development of Vogue’s September 2007 issue, the largest issue ever published of any monthly magazine.

The movie focuses on Anna Wintour, who has held the title of editor-in-chief of Vogue for 21 years. Considered by many as the most powerful woman in fashion, Wintour is both feared and venerated. She was even the inspiration for the character Miranda Priestly from the novel and movie The Devil Wears Prada, written by Lauren Weisberger, a former assistant of Wintour.

Before watching this movie, I anticipated seeing just why Anna Wintour is branded an ice woman. And after seeing Wintour in action, I am able to see why she is feared, but fail to see what warrants her designation as a villainess. Based solely on what I’ve seen of her, she is not a cruel woman. She’s influential, straightforward, and motivated, all of which fuel her intimidating demeanor. She may not seem friendly or likable, but she isn’t devoid of humor. She is merely focused on doing her job, and she does it well.

I enjoyed getting a peek at the inner workings of a fashion magazine. It’s fascinating to see something so multifaceted made from scratch. Often we see a final product and don’t consider the process it takes to get to it, and it’s always refreshing to have our minds opened to such things. In conclusion, if you’re interested in fashion (and if you’re reading this, you most likely are), The September Issue is certainly worth a watch.
